Umrah can be called a sacred journey and a dream for every Muslim. Every Muslim wants to perform Umrah at least once in his life. In order to fulfill this dream, there is no restriction as far as age is concerned. Yes, we can say that there is no specific age limit in which you need to perform Umrah. In case you are physically and financially able to perform Umrah, you are allowed to perform it at any age.
As far as women are concerned, there is no age requirement as well. However, women can’t perform Umrah without a Mahram. A Mahram is usually a make relative tied to the woman through breastfeeding, blood or relations after marriage. The Mahram is there to provide comfort and security to the women. As per the Saudi regulations, women without Mahram can’t receive an Umrah visa.
Several people may think that there can now be some age restrictions because of natural calamities, pandemics and hence we can talk about Covid-19. The Saudi Kingdom may set certain age restrictions on performing Umrah. After the covid pandemic, the Saudi government set a limit of 70 years from the previous 50 years. As per the authorities, the pilgrims aged between 18 and 70 could perform Umrah. Also, the covid vaccine was also necessary for Muslims of all ages. Covid-19 vaccine has become an essential part of the Umrah because without it you can’t enter Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. You have to adhere to these strict health protocols if you are keen to perform Umrah.
Therefore, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has now stipulated the minimum age requirement for the Umrah performers. Children under the age of 5 years can’t perform Umrah. Muslims of more than 5 years of age can obtain an Umrah visa.
